Glacier (2018) Original Mixed-media Painting by Abi Moffat

This original abstract expressive painting has a palette of turquoise, pink and orange. Acrylic paint and oil bar are combined to create a very textured painting on canvas. Subtly tray framed in a dark wood. Traces of brush strokes and oil bar can be seen on the surface.

The work explores the tension between structure and spontaneity. Broad fields of colour provide a sense of continuity, while gestural marks, interruptions and unexpected encounters disrupt and reshape the surface. Inspired by the large expressive paintings of Clyfford Still, the work develops through an intuitive process of response and revision.
