Entropy (2024) Original Mixed-media Painting by Abi Moffat

This original abstract expressive painting was created on my year on the Turps Offsite East Sussex programme. Using mixed media, this work involves household paint and collaging old bits of painted canvas into the surface. I allow the materials to guide me, moving between spontaneous gestures and deliberate interventions. Brushes, palette knives, sponges become extensions of my subconscious mind, while found imagery from old magazines introduces moments of structure and pause. These collaged fragments, integrated into the painted surface, create a dialogue between the digital and the tactile, the familiar and the abstract.
I hope the work encourages personal reflection and emotional response.
