Dancer (2020) Original Pastel Drawing by Rumen Sazdov

50 x 70cm (unframed)

2 Artist Reviews

£685.74

This pastel drawing is my attempt to capture the pure energy and geometry of ballet in its most modern, somewhat cubist form. As an artist, I did not want to paint just the ballerina herself, but above all the power and vibrations that her movement creates in the space around her. The result is a fragile figure in contrast to sharp, dynamic lines.
The dancer's body deliberately lacks facial details. It thus becomes a universal symbol of dance, grace and maximum physical concentration.
The light pink skirt forms the geometric center of the painting. Its circular shape breaks up the surrounding sharp angles and gives the work a traditional ballet aesthetic. Strong blue, purple and orange lines cut the space around the body. They depict the flow of air, music and the speed of movement of the arms and legs. The glowing yellow dot behind the dancer's head acts as an imaginary spotlight or sun, crowning the entire scene and giving it a spiritual dimension.
