Breathing in Silence (2025) Original Ink Drawing by Nicol Vacaru

27 x 26.8 x 0.1cm (unframed) / 27 x 26.8cm (actual image size)

Breathing in Silence is an original black ink drawing on paper featuring two human profiles formed through layered, continuous brush movements.

I created the figures through broad flowing gestures rather than fixed outlines. As the lines overlap and change direction, the two profiles gradually appear within the same movement.

I wanted the work to suggest the kind of connection that does not always need words — two people occupying the same space, close enough to influence one another while still remaining separate.

The contrast between dense black ink and untouched paper gives the piece movement and structure while keeping the composition open and minimal.

An original figurative ink drawing by Nicol Vacaru.
