" Borrowed Hours“by Anahita Amouzegar
Series statement:
Afterlayers is a body of work about the accumulation of living. Like a palimpsest, each painting holds traces of earlier moments beneath newer ones. Figures, objects, rooms and memories overlap the way recollections do—not in a clear sequence, but all at once. Nothing is completely hidden and nothing is fully revealed. The paintings become emotional landscapes where past and present occupy the same space, carrying the marks of what has been lived, forgotten, remembered and rewritten.
Nothing in the painting belongs to a single event. Instead, it reflects the way memory gathers—layer by layer—until ordinary moments become inseparable from one another. What remains is not a story, but a trace of many stories living together.
