Blue Fish (2026) Original Oil Painting by Liza Illichmann

I painted this because I love the raw, vivid look of fresh mackerel. When you pick them up, they aren't smooth or boring - they're flashing silver, deep blues, and sharp angles. I wanted to capture that energy with thick, heavy paint so you can almost feel the texture of the scales and the cold movement of the sea. It’s an up-close look at something we usually just see on a plate, brought to life with thick strokes and bold color.
