Blue Eurasian nuthatch bird (2026) Original Watercolour by Tetiana Savchenko

This original watercolor bird portrait features a Eurasian nuthatch, a small woodland bird with an extraordinary way of moving along tree trunks. Unlike most birds, it can climb headfirst down a tree, making even an ordinary walk along the bark look like an acrobatic performance.

I find these little birds fascinating because of their energy, curiosity, and confidence. In this portrait, I wanted to capture that lively character through the bird’s distinctive posture and alert expression. I particularly enjoyed exploring the contrast between its soft blue-grey plumage and the warm, earthy tones of the tree bark.

The transparent watercolor layers bring out the delicate feather textures, while the clean white background keeps the focus on the bird and its unusual character. This painting would be a lovely addition to a nature-inspired interior or a collection celebrating the beauty of small woodland birds.
