What happens before we become who we are meant to be?
Before Wings explores the invisible stage of transformation—the quiet space where change has already begun but is not yet visible to the world. The threads surrounding the figure resemble a cocoon rather than a restraint. They hold the body in suspension, creating a protected space where healing and reconstruction can take place.
Painted fractures trace the history of lived experience, while stitched connections suggest that resilience is formed gradually, through patience rather than force. The work reflects the moment before emergence, when identity is being rewritten beneath the surface. Part of The Shape of Resilience series, it proposes that becoming whole is not a return to what once existed, but the creation of something entirely new.
