Coastal Coordinates is an original large blue and beige abstract painting by contemporary artist Tatiana Malinovscaia, created in 2026 as part of my Oceanic Geometry series. Measuring 140 × 80 cm, this horizontal acrylic painting on canvas combines ocean-inspired color with strong architectural geometry and richly layered texture.

The Oceanic Geometry series began with my fascination with two seemingly opposite worlds: the fluid, constantly changing nature of water and the precision of human-made structures.

In this painting, I imagined looking toward the sea through fragments of contemporary architecture—horizontal planes, vertical structures and intersecting lines dividing an open coastal space.

I started with expansive areas of muted ocean blue, dusty turquoise and blue-grey, creating the atmospheric upper field. These cooler colors are balanced by ivory, soft white, warm beige, sand, taupe and stone grey, bringing light and openness into the composition.

At the center, deeper passages of charcoal, blue-black, espresso brown and dark umber form a strong vertical axis. Thin horizontal lines extend across the canvas, creating a sense of distance and suggesting an abstract shoreline or architectural plan.

Small accents of warm ochre, amber and burnt sienna introduce warmth against the cooler blues and neutrals. They remind me of sunlight touching wood, stone or coastal structures late in the day.

I developed the painting through multiple layers of professional acrylic paint using palette knives and brushes, combining glazing, scraping, dry-brush work, layering and expressive gestural marks. Some areas were deliberately painted over and partially removed so that previous layers remain visible.

This process allows two visual languages to coexist. From a distance, Coastal Coordinates feels structured and architectural. Closer inspection reveals broken edges, scraped paint, irregular marks and subtle transitions that give the surface a more organic character.

The central intersection is intentionally dominant. It acts almost like a set of coordinates, organizing the composition while the surrounding blue and neutral fields remain open and atmospheric.

For me, this contrast lies at the heart of Oceanic Geometry: architecture and water, precision and movement, structure and freedom.

Although the painting may suggest a coastline, marina, modern coastal architecture or a view from the sea, it does not represent a specific location. I prefer to leave the geography undefined, allowing the viewer to create a personal connection with the image.

The generous 140 × 80 cm horizontal format gives the work a strong panoramic presence. Its combination of ocean blue, turquoise, beige, ivory, taupe, charcoal and warm earthy accents creates a sophisticated balance between cool and warm tones.

This is a one-of-a-kind original painting, created entirely by hand in 2026. It is signed on the front and accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity.
