    MY INSPIRATIONS
are love, landscape, literature, expressed in acrylics, chalk pastels, inks and watercolours.

    THE EARLY YEARS
I was born in rural Northern Ireland and began exhibiting my artworks in 1976, when I graduated from Belfast College of Art, where I had studied Painting and a postgraduate year in Printmaking.
I then moved to London and spent the following sixteen years in the East End at a time when there was plenty of affordable studio space for the many artists working there. My studio was based in a street of short-life housing for artists, so enabling us to devote time to our careers.

    CHANGE OF SCENERY
In 1993, I relocated to the Lincolnshire Wolds - its huge open skies and undulating landscape was so different to my previous inner city life! Now I lived surrounded by huge beech trees and seeing the moon and stars captured in the branches inspired me. My earlier works had been totally figure-based, but in time my figures became part of a landscape - and eventually painting the landscape itself is now important to me too.

    EXHIBITIONS and AWARDS
I've always exhibited regularly and in 1987 was proud to be one of seven artists representing Northern Ireland at Fung Ping Shan Museum in Hong Kong. In 1998 Mount Berry College, U.S.A. hosted my solo exhibition.
I’ve been a recipient of two Arts Council Awards - in 1977 from Arts Council Northern Ireland, and from Arts Council England in 2003 to learn stone-carving - a wonderful boost to my career in time or my 50th birthday!

I was employed as company artist for AuraSoma from 1996 - 2000. From the huge output of illustration for their books and products, 2 projects are now collector items - the 'AuraSoma New Aeon Tarot' and 'Goddesses Book and Calendar' - a personal project on Astrology and Colour that I wrote and illustrated to celebrate the Millennium. Now a collector’s item on Amazon!

My most recent published freelance illustration project was a set of 9 watercolours for a Danish author in 2020. Examples of my Astrology and Tarot imagery have been included in the both books of TASCHEN Library of Esoterica 2020 - see the "ME AT WORK" tab above to view.
