  • Biography

    Jonathan McAfee (b. 1982) is an artist working in Evergreen, CO. After graduating from Herron School of Art and Design (Indiana University) with a B.F.A. in painting, McAfee began focusing on the figure and developing his expressive application of paint.

    He has exhibited in solo exhibitions at the Evansville Museum of Arts, History & Science (Evansville, IN) and Artwork Network (Denver, CO). His numerous group exhibitions include Muses of Mt. Helikon IV  at Helikon Gallery (Denver, CO) and The Self-Portrait Show at Gallery 924 (Indianapolis, IN). McAfee was awarded the second annual North American Artist Showcase (June 2016) through Professional Artist Magazine

    McAfee's work is collected throughout the U.S. and Europe and can be seen and purchased at his art studio in Evergreen, CO.

    In collaboration with ArtFido and Professional Artist Magazine, I was awarded the second annual North American Artist Showcase in 2016. I received a full-page feature in Professional Artist Magazine during their June/July issue.

    1999

    Prelude Award

    Now celebrating its 32nd year, the Prelude Awards provide youth with opportunities to learn through the arts. Developed in 1984, they are a long-standing collaboration between the Children’s Museum of Indianapolis and the Penrod Society.

    In 1999 I collaborated with several other high school art students to create a multi-canvas artwork that represented an artist's life. We were the first group to win the brand-new "collaboration" category.

    From landscapes to portraiture there is something for every viewer to connect with in "Winter Eclectic". The work features artists including Tracy Lynn Pristas, Jonathan McAfee, James Bohling, Sarah Van Beckum, Teruko Wilde, Bob Maes, Tadashi Hayakawa and Anina Hathaway. The local flare and non traditional pairings bring the show to life.

    The exhibit will open to the public on December 2nd, corresponding with the Art District on Santa Fe’s First Friday Artwalk. The artwork will remain on display until January 31, 2017. The Artwork Network Gallery is located at 878 Santa Fe Drive, and is open Monday - Friday, 9am - 5pm, and Saturday 12 - 4pm, with special hours for First & Third Friday Artwalks.

    Helikon Gallery is proud to announce the next installment of our year-end, definitive group exhibit of inspiring and influential contemporary artists known as ‘Muses of Mount Helikon IV.’ This annual show is an invite-only exhibit of artists from across the United States, known for being large, eclectic, colorful, and featuring many high level artists’ work. The muses were goddesses of inspiration who were said to dwell upon Mount Helikon, so there is no restriction on theme or concept, but rather an encouragement for artists to show their newest and most expressive personal works.
