About Gerard Boersma

Biography

Artist Statement

I create vibrant, highly detailed works of art that explore both my deep affection for the modern human condition and my concerns regarding contemporary society. In a frantic and rapidly changing world, my goal is to inspire viewers to preserve their capacity for empathy, connection, and humanity.

My hyperrealistic paintings find their origins in street photography captured during long walks through my hometown and major global cities. Focusing on the details of daily existence, I depict individuals navigating public transit, retail spaces, streets, and museums, as well as the commercial products that define our era.

To me, these transient glimpses of everyday life serve as profound mirrors of modern culture. They illuminate the subtle ways we act, communicate, and adapt to modern developments. By observing, magnifying, and meticulously painting these fleeting scenes, I suspend the rush of everyday life—turning a fleeting moment into a sanctuary for quiet contemplation.

About the Artist

Gerard Boersma (b. 1976) is an internationally acclaimed Dutch painter with a career spanning over 25 years, celebrated for his distinct mastery of contemporary hyperrealism. He has achieved widespread global recognition for his meticulously detailed acrylic-on-panel works—most notably his renowned "Museum Series"—which offer a welcome pause in our fast-paced existence by capturing the quiet realities of daily life.

Actively represented by top contemporary galleries across Europe and the United States, Boersma has exhibited alongside icons like Warhol and Banksy, with his coveted paintings now held in permanent museum collections, prominent galleries, and esteemed private collections across six continents and over 35 countries.
