I love to depict the quiet moments of people in museums, entirely lost in the act of looking. This painting shows a man enjoying a masterpiece by Richard Diebenkorn.
Diebenkorn’s Ocean Park series is a famous set of 145 abstract paintings named after the beachfront neighborhood in Santa Monica, California, where he kept his studio. Started in 1967, these masterworks use a harmony of precise geometry and color to capture the brilliant coastal light, hazy atmosphere, and sweeping California landscape without ever depicting them literally.
