Wild yellow irises fill this expressive floral painting with movement, sunlight and the energy of a Mediterranean spring. Painted in oil on canvas, the work combines vibrant yellow flowers, deep blue-violet accents and a richly textured surface created through energetic, layered brushwork.
Living on the Mediterranean coast of Spain, I am surrounded by flowers for much of the year, but wild irises have a particular intensity for me. In spring, they seem to appear almost suddenly, transforming the landscape. I wanted to capture not a botanical representation of the flowers, but the sensation of their movement — irises bending and almost dancing in the warm Spanish wind.
In this work, I am drawn to the freedom of colour, rhythm and emotional expression associated with Post-Impressionism. Rather than copying nature literally, I use colour, texture and the movement of the brushstroke to transform what I have seen into a personal painterly memory and impression.
The textured oil surface interacts with the light and changes subtly depending on the viewing angle, intensifying the contrast between the luminous yellows and deep blue-violet tones.
