Winter Reflections (2025) Original Oil Painting by Aleksandr Dubrovskyy

Winter Reflections
Blue sky, snow and open water create the color structure of this winter landscape.
The river remains unfrozen, reflecting turquoise and pale blue from the sky. Along its banks, snow lies in broad areas of cream, lavender and cool grey, while the trees introduce ochre, orange, violet and muted red.
I painted the scene with large, direct strokes and thick applications of oil paint. Instead of smoothing the surface, I allowed the marks of the brush and palette knife to remain visible. They give the trees, snow and moving water their physical character.
Although the subject is winter, I did not see it as a nearly white landscape. What interested me was exactly the opposite, the surprising amount of color revealed by snow, water and winter light.
