The Departed (Diptych) (2026) Original Mixed-media Painting by Fiona Grimshaw

Inspired by the landscape and the quiet beauty of nature, this diptych is also a deeply personal reflection on loss, love, and remembrance.

Created in memory of our loved ones no longer with us, the painting features four birds on the horizon. Three remain together, while a solitary bird flies apart, symbolising a loved one who has departed but is never forgotten. Although rooted in my own experience of grief, this piece is intended to resonate with anyone who has experienced the loss of someone. It serves as a gentle tribute to those who remain forever present in our hearts and memories.

Rich in texture and shimmering gold accents, the artwork captures changing light throughout the day, bringing warmth, depth, and a quiet sense of hope to the composition. The gold details act as a reminder that even in loss, the memories of those we love continue to shine brightly.

Painted on cradled wooden panels, each piece is finished with a protective satin varnish and beautifully presented in a light wood floating frame. It comes ready to hang. Includes a certificate of authenticity and is signed and dated on the back.
