Artwork description
"Windswept Hawthorn" is a carborundum and drypoint print with watercolour chine colle.
The image depicts a hawthorn tree battling with the harsh winds of the West of Ireland, typically seen in Connemara and Mayo, or anywhere along the Wild Atlantic Way.
The background of the image was created by painting watercolours on Chinese Rice Paper. This stage of the process must be carried out quickly without over-brushing the delicate rice paper. The dried rice paper is then over-printed with a carborundum and drypoint plate, and adhered to Fabriano paper using my etching press.
The print is in a variable edition of twelve prints. The edition is variable, as the watercolour background of each of the prints is different.
