Wildflowers at Loch Stenness is an atmospheric Scottish landscape artwork created beside the Loch of Stenness in Orkney. Soft wildflowers, grasses and the colours of the island landscape dissolve into layers of ochre, moss green, golden yellow and turquoise blue, giving the photograph the appearance of a gently weathered painting.

There is something wonderfully untamed about Orkney in summer. Wild grasses move across the land and tiny flowers appear almost unnoticed among them, while beyond, the cool northern sky stretches towards the horizon. Here, detail has been softened so that colour, texture and light become more important than the literal landscape.

I wanted this piece to hold the feeling of standing quietly in a wild place—the warmth of summer grasses, the salt air and that extraordinary sense of space found on these remote northern islands. There is a gentle nostalgia to it, as though the landscape has been remembered rather than simply seen.

With its rich natural palette and painterly surface, Wildflowers at Loch Stenness brings warmth and atmosphere to an interior. The ochre, olive and golden tones work particularly beautifully with natural wood, stone, linen and other earthy materials, while the soft turquoise-blue adds a fresh counterpoint. It is especially suited to contemporary, rustic and quietly luxurious interiors where a large atmospheric artwork can become the focal point of a room.

Printed on beautiful Canson Aquarelle Rag, a museum-quality fine art paper with the subtle texture and character of traditional watercolour paper. Each work is produced in a small limited edition and includes an additional white border, individually titled, signed and numbered by me.
