Whitechapel (2024) Original Pastel Drawing by David Lloyd

This is a drawing of the view from our apartment in Whitechapel looking west towards the city. I really enjoy drawing large city scenes like this that have a mixture of older and newer architecture, are incredibly busy and at first seem somewhat overwhelming. It is an interesting challenge to try to faithfully recreate as many of the details as possible and it always leads to the discovery of parts of the scene that I would otherwise never notice. It is only through this intensive looking and studying of the scene that these details reveal themselves to me.
