WHISPER (2021) Original Watercolour by Paolo Scaglioni

This painting gradually revealed itself on the canvas.
It began quite unexpectedly. I was experimenting with watercolor brushstrokes over a flat acrylic background when a few patches of color began to appear. As I adjusted them slightly, they suddenly came together as a face—a distinct presence, almost as if it had been there all along, waiting to emerge.
I found myself asking aloud, “And where did you come from?”
The face seemed to look back at me, with an expression that was at once doubtful and faintly irritated.
I decided to leave it just as it was. It felt as though the figure itself had somehow insisted on making its way onto the canvas.
A small example of accidental art—when the painting seems to take over and reveal something you never intended to paint.
