Where Colours Sing (2024) Original Acrylic Painting by Alex Mensah

The painting is an energetic celebration of music, rhythm and colour, bringing together expressive forms inspired by musical instruments in a vibrant contemporary composition. Wind instruments, keyboard keys and rounded percussion-like forms overlap and flow into one another, creating a visual sense of movement and sound.

Rich greens, reds, ochres, yellows and deep blues create a warm African-inspired palette, while the bold shapes and contrasting lines give the composition an almost musical pulse. Rather than presenting the instruments realistically, I have transformed them into expressive forms, allowing colour and abstraction to communicate the emotion of music.

The work reflects the idea that music is more than sound—it is memory, identity, movement and connection. Every shape seems to participate in an unfolding visual rhythm, inviting the viewer to imagine the melodies and conversations taking place within the composition.
