"We Met Between the Flowers" (2026) Original Oil Painting by Julia Borg

We Met Between the Flowers was inspired by my visit to Giverny in spring 2026. The garden felt almost immersive — paths disappeared beneath layers of plants, while benches and quiet corners appeared unexpectedly between the flowers.

Created later in my studio, the painting developed into a tall, densely layered floral composition. Pink, yellow, orange, white, blue and violet flowers rise through deep green foliage, leading the eye from the path at the bottom towards the darker space above. Loose, expressive brushwork preserves the abundance and movement of the garden without describing every flower precisely.

The title suggests an encounter hidden within this landscape — a private moment that belongs only to the people who were there. Influenced by Giverny and Impressionism, the painting combines observation with emotion, transforming the garden into a place of intimacy and connection.
