Under Pressure unfolds through a restrained, expansive field where tension is held between density and openness. A muted expanse of grey-green spreads across the surface – soft, atmospheric, and absorbing – while darker, concentrated clusters gather at the edges, forming sites of intensity and compression.
These clustered areas – deep blue-green, punctuated with red and layered gestural marks – feel charged and unsettled, as if energy is being contained or pushed outward. In contrast, the central space remains quiet and exposed, allowing the raw canvas to breathe through the composition. This interplay creates a subtle but persistent pressure – a push and pull between accumulation and release.
Drips extend downward from the central mass, marking time and gravity, reinforcing the sense of weight carried within the painting. The surface holds traces of drawing and writing, though they remain faint, partially absorbed into the field.
