I am in a teal phase. I don’t choose it — it chooses me. Until I am saturated, I cannot paint anything else.

Ukiyo arrived during this time. The colour came first — deep, atmospheric, the feeling of sea air and moving water. Then the branches, going where they went. Then the roses, opening in violet and indigo and pink, each one a small surprise. The smaller buds came last, quiet among the drama.

Ukiyo. The floating world. Present, passing, already gone.

Part of the series Breath of Now. Painted with a palette knife and brush on natural linen. The roses shaped with a small fruit knife from a wedding silverware set.
