Original artwork description
I walk by this unusual oak tree every day. With the dappled light spilling through the trunks and leaves, I just couldn't resist painting it. The strength of the intertwining wooded limbs narrowing to reveal thin branches with robust foliage was striking. The contrast with the sharply angled white house behind it accentuated it shape.
I paint in the lineage of the French and American Impressionists who were inspired by the light and color of nature. I begin the painting with brushes and finish with a palette knife. The brush gives a soft feel while the palette knife has crisper edges. With the knife I can also achieve more color refinement.
I painted this on a primed panel. This is more conducive to outdoor painting especially with a palette knife. Since I paint in layers, there is some texture to this painting. The layers of paint are not very thick, but the texture is visible. This painting is unframed.

brushes, palette knife

- Oil painting on Panel / Board / MDF
