- The Old Canal
Original artwork description
The Old Canal explores the relationship between architecture, memory, and the passage of time through an imagined urban landscape.
Fragmented buildings in muted turquoise, ochre, rust, and pale blue rise along a narrow waterway, where two small boats rest beneath towering structures. Layered oil paint, scraped lines, and shifting perspectives create a sense of depth while allowing the architecture to dissolve into abstraction.
Developed through an intuitive process of layering, obscuring, and rebuilding, the painting reflects my fascination with weathered environments and the traces of what came before. The irregular forms and textured surfaces suggest a place shaped by time, deterioration, and renewal.
Rather than depicting a specific location, The Old Canal invites the viewer to explore a space that feels both familiar and uncertain.
Original oil painting on stretched canvas, 2025.
