Testing Davis Apparatus (1941) Giclée print by Eric Ravilious

49.71 x 45.69cm (unframed)

£98

One of ten famous lithographs known collectively as The Submarine Series. Initially commissioned by the War Artist’s Committee in 1940, but then rejected by them leaving Ravilious free to experiment and depict as he pleased. And Ravilious enjoyed this project: the scene in the interiors, he writes, is “extraordinarily good…There are small coloured lights about the place and the complexity of a Swiss clock”. (Ravilious to E. M. O’Rourke Dickey, 2nd Aug 1940; from correspondence held at the Imperial War Museum). This is printed to the original size of the lithograph. (The purchase of two or more in the Submarine Series attracts a 10% discount).

This print is authorised for publication by the artist's Estate and has a seal of authenticity embossed onto the white paper margin. It is from a limited edition of 950 and is hand-numbered and hand-embossed. This print has a typed caption running along its paper border. The caption indicates permission and authorisation from the artist's Estate, and from the museum or gallery holding the work. The caption will be concealed by a mount when the print is framed.
