Original artwork description:

We're a long way from Summer and I'm looking forward to long evenings and sunny days. Sunflowers are iconic in the world of Art today. They are so famous they have infiltrated our daily lives. If you know little of the Art world I guarantee you would think of Van Gogh's sunflowers. I visited the Van Gogh light show/exhibition in Bristol in 2021 and can see how the humble sunflower has risen in popularity. It's bold, vibrant colour with it's harvest of sunflower seeds in the heavy centre. They are the opposite of dainty, I would even call them sturdily magnificent!
Here is my recent painting. I felt that a heavy texture would suit the structure and weight of these flower heads. I've pared then sunflowers with soft white and cream flowers, allowing the glory of the sunflowers to take centre stage. The background is a toned sky blue which I associate with sunflowers.
