Smoker's Shadow (2024) Original Oil Painting by Eliza Kołodziej

The cigarette drawing on the ashtray is bold, almost cheerful — as if hastily sketched with a marker. Yet, behind this playful gesture lies silence. The bench waits, empty. The supposed smoker is gone, leaving only traces of presence and absence. The composition becomes a quiet study of what is left behind — an image of a place that still holds the memory of someone who isn’t there.

The wooden bench, painted with near-photorealistic precision, contrasts with the delicate, shifting shadow of the flowers. Their soft silhouettes move across the wall as if swaying in the wind, touching the spot where the imagined figure might sit. The stillness feels uneasy, suspended between warmth and tension.

Through this painting, I wanted to explore how something as ordinary as a resting place can become charged with emotion. The more we look, the more the silence begins to speak.

The painting is ready to hang and will be delivered in secure, multi-layered packaging, fully tracked and insured to the full value of the artwork. Each work comes with a hand-signed Certificate of Authenticity, confirming its originality.
