Satellite

A quiet night scene seen through a window: the moon, an orbiting object and a satellite dish, all lit by the intensity of moonlight. Satellite captures the stillness and wonder of looking out into the dark, where human presence meets the vastness of the cosmos.

The painting grew from memory, from the feeling of being in a special, remembered place. It sets interior reflection against the infinite world beyond the glass, and invites a slow, contemplative kind of looking.

About the series
A few years ago I began giving a group of works nine-letter titles, a loose rule that connects them without tying them to any shared theme or imagery. The constraint opens up new ways of approaching each piece and continues my long-running interest in framing devices, here, quite literally, a window.

Presentation
Framed in a simple beech tray frame that gives the image room to breathe and adds to its meditative feel. Supplied ready to hang.

I paint small, strange, glowing worlds: night skies, a blossom tree in my garden, half-remembered landscapes. Each one feels like a window, or a fragment of a bigger scene that... Read more
