“I am making this statement as an act of willful defiance of military authority, because I believe that the War is being deliberately prolonged by those who have the power to end it.” ― Siegfried Sassoon.
Many of the great insights to the horrors of the trenches have come from satirical and bitter poems written by the men who fought valiantly in them. Siegfried Sassoon was one such enigma, awarded a Military Cross for his heroic efforts while at the same time condemning the conduct of the war.
Here I have chosen Sassoon's poem 'Base Details' as the backdrop for this acrylic portrait of the soldier poet.
Illustrated on a hammer embossed fine art paper, this one-of-a-kind artwork is finished by floating in an inch deep, 7x7'' black frame.
