Original artwork description
Drawn from directly beneath a Roman façade, this ink and watercolour piece crops out the ground entirely — no horizon, no context, just cornice, inscription and the sliver of sky they frame. I worked in Indian black ink and ivory black watercolour on 300gsm paper so the shadows could sit heavy and matte rather than glossy. The vertical format was deliberate: it keeps the eye climbing rather than resting. 35 x 50 cm, ready to hang.
