As a child holidaying on the south coast of England, I would wait for the tide to ebb and reveal this new playground of rock pools. As an adult and an artist, I found myself in the same spot waiting for the tide to reveal the scene I wanted to recreate in paint.
Christopher Witchall's seascape painting captures the atmosphere, light and open space and vast sky of the English coastline.
His unsentimental approach to his subject combine traditional painting techniques with the realism and cool detachment of photography.
