REMAINS: What I Keep (2026) Original Mixed-media Painting by Anastacia Kevich

25 x 25 x 2cm (unframed)

£591.91

REMAINS begins with a question: Who am I?
The series explores the difficulty of answering that question honestly. Identity is formed over time through social roles, inherited values, expectations and ideas of who we are supposed to be. Gradually, these influences become so deeply embedded that it can become difficult to distinguish what we have consciously chosen from what we have simply learned to accept as our own.
REMAINS turns to the moment when a person begins to question these inherited definitions. What do I believe because I have chosen to believe it? Which roles still belong to me? Which expectations have become so familiar that I mistake them for my own desires? And what remains when I begin to let go of what no longer feels true?
At its core, REMAINS is an act of self-examination: the courage to look honestly at what has shaped us, to decide what we choose to keep, and to answer “Who am I?” without allowing the answer to be determined by who we were expected to become.
