I have recently come across the term 'Shibui' which is a Japanese aesthetic focusing on simple, subtle, and elegant beauty. It draws upon the essence of nature — raw loveliness with intricate details not readily noticed. I feel this sums up perfectly how I paint and the compositions that I choose.

The painted image of the sparrow is such a common little bird connects us to the overlooked and passed by forcing us to really look. This captures humanity's eternal dialogue with nature, where every petal and wing bears witness to our deepest aspirations and timeless values. It is not only beautiful but celebrates the fleeting nature of life.

Part of the 'mixed realms' collection.
