Reflecting on Blue is an atmospheric fine art seascape created on the Isle of Skye, where the soft light of dawn transforms sea, sky and wet sand into a luminous study of blue.

I made this photograph using a long exposure, allowing the movement of the water to soften while preserving the delicate reflections across the shore. I was mesmerised by the almost ice-cream tones of the morning clouds — pale peach, cream and soft blue — mirrored in the turquoise shallows beneath my feet. For a fleeting moment, it felt as though I were walking amongst the clouds rather than beneath them.

Beyond the water, the distant mountains of the Scottish Highlands form a slender blue horizon, giving scale and stillness to the expansive foreground. The combination of turquoise, aqua, warm cream and gentle apricot gives the image a painterly, almost Impressionist quality while retaining the quiet authenticity of a landscape photographed on location.

There is something wonderfully uplifting about Reflecting on Blue. It holds that rare clarity of an island morning when the tide has withdrawn and the whole landscape seems filled with light. As a large statement artwork, its open composition and luminous palette can bring a sense of space, serenity and coastal freshness to an interior, particularly rooms with soft neutrals, natural woods, whites and pale blues.
This is the Limited Edition Fine Art Giclée Paper Print version for framing.
