Original artwork description
A lone tree with violet foliage leans over a rocky ledge while lavender mountains rise behind it in this dreamlike expressionist landscape painting. The composition lives on contrast: a dark twisting trunk against a pale open sky, cool turquoise grass and pines against layer upon layer of purple, and a tiny lime green sapling growing in the shelter of the old tree.
Purple Tree Dream belongs to my Mountain Soul series, a group of oil paintings where mountains carry the mood and a single tree carries the story. The title says it plainly. This is a landscape as it might appear in a dream, where colour is freer than in nature and the wind lifts leaves across the whole sky. The old tree bends but holds its ground, and the young one beside it adds a quiet note of hope.
The canvas measures 60 x 80 cm (about 23.6 x 31.5 inches) in portrait format, a size that reads clearly from across a room. It looks wonderful above a bed or a console table, in a reading corner, or in an entrance hall where the purple and turquoise bring light into a neutral interior. If your space is grey, white or beige, this painting becomes its colour accent.
It is painted in oil on stretched cotton canvas with expressive layered brushwork.
