Purple Rain (2021) Original Acrylic Painting by Galina Zimmatore

Purple Rain is an original semi-abstract landscape painting inspired by the atmosphere created when rain, clouds and distant hills merge into an ever-changing scene.

The lower part of the painting suggests reflective water or a quiet marshland, while the upper areas evoke clouds, falling rain and rolling purple hills. I wanted the landscape to remain partly recognisable while allowing colour, texture and expressive marks to create something more dreamlike.

I built the painting through layers of acrylic, charcoal, marker and stencil work, using blues, lilac, purple, white and darker tones to create movement across the surface. The contrasting marks and colours give the painting a sense of changing weather and shifting light.

The result is a landscape that sits somewhere between observation and imagination — a moment after or during rain where the familiar countryside becomes atmospheric and mysterious.

Purple Rain is a one-of-a-kind original artwork by Galina Zimmatore, painted on a wooden cradle board. It is supplied unframed and can be displayed as it is or framed according to the collector's preference.
