Original artwork description
This collection of miniature pansy paintings celebrates the joy and wonder of a small, full-bloom plant I’ve always been drawn to. In each piece, pansies appear at their most radiant—open, vivid, and full of character—revealing the extraordinary variety of colours and intricate patterns that make them so captivating.
I’m especially connected to these flowers through my cultural tradition: pansies are lovingly known as “Little Anna’s Little Eyes.” The name means a great deal to me because my daughter is named Anna, and her presence has been a constant source of inspiration.
To enhance the painted blossoms, I chose a background of shimmering golden, silver, and copper leaf. This reflective layer adds a distinctive glow, creating contrast that helps the flowers truly pop against the surface. Each artwork is hand-painted, then gilded with imitation gold, silver, or copper, adding warmth and luminosity to the overall composition.
The velvety surface of the pastel paper plays an essential role in the final effect. Its soft texture mirrors the gentle, plush quality of the pansy petals, allowing the flowers to feel even more alive, intimate, and beautifully detailed in miniature.
