  • Biography
Art isn’t just in my heart, it is everywhere from my toes to every single hair on my head I’m certain. There is a message artists seem to send in every brush stroke, every drawn line, and every creation. I have been able to nestle into a unique place in the art world, by combining a beautiful blend of realism and abstract. The subjects of daily life has captured me in so many ways, and finding ways to represent them is a challenge I embrace. When colour is combined with bright accents or soft touches, the canvas opens up and invites us in to feel every nuance. I love oil and pastel for this reason! What is an even greater joy is when the viewer becomes lost in the work, or is inspired to learn and develop their own interest in becoming an artist.

Dakota Art Pastels All Year Round Competition, emerging artist category. 2nd place

Along with recognition of the winning artists, we would like to thank all who entered the 1st Annual Dakota Pastel Contest putting your work on display for other artists to view. The number of entries were well beyond our expectations as we were developing this new venture for Dakota Art! The response was very positive to having Emerging and Established categories, accentuated by the fact that each quarter the emerging side had twice as many entries as established.

Kudos and infinite thanks to our quarterly Jurors (Liz Haywood-Sullivan, Desmond O’Hagan, Tony Allain, and Dawn Emerson) for riding the learning curve with us and doing a yeoman’s job of thoughtfully and professionally viewing and carefully selecting the quarterly and ultimately the final winning pastel paintings!
