After a recent 3 month trip to Australia I was inspired by the colours and textures of the rugged and ancient terrain of the many National Parks that I visited in New South Wales —ranging from dry, cracked dirt to rough tree bark. and rich ochre colours -that are so different from our English countryside.
Whilst there, I began to collect eucalyptus leaves that had fallen from the many gum trees and scraps of bark which had peeled off the trees. Each leaf or piece of bark was a different colour and texture but overall, their colours were the same as those in the wider landscape.
I made this semi-abstract painting of an Australian landscape using paint and many gum tree leaves (which have all been treated, sealed and varnished very thoroughly!) and have tried to avoid an obvious foreground, middle-ground and background to evoke the style of Fred Williams and other wonderful artists whose work I was drawn to in the art galleries of NSW.
This mixed media painting is framed in a white wood grain floating frame and is ready to hang.

Materials used:

treated and sealed eucalyptus leaves, tree bark and acrylic paint
