Original artwork description
Three verticals lean on a charcoal ground: a length of white-painted salvage, a blue-stained slat, an oxblood bar. Above them, two diagonals faced in gold and copper leaf cross the composition at different angles, mounted on raw wooden blocks that lift them clear of everything beneath. A small silver bar sits between. A blue disc, the only curve in the piece, rides on the blue slat rather than on the ground.
The supporting blocks are left unpainted and visible. Nothing here rests directly on the panel except the verticals themselves; every other element is carried by something, and the structure that does the carrying is part of what is shown.
Nothing is parallel to anything else.
