Original artwork description
Inspired by Lucian Freud's 'Benefits Supervisor Sleeping', this painting plays with the tensions found in binaries, namely, those of virility and impotency, as well as immanent love and the forelooming of death. Set in the ambiguous space of a dark and obscure room, it captures, as if in a surreal photograph, a delicate and anonymous moment of intimacy. Evoking the history of the female nude in Western art, it takes the eroticism of the female body to the extreme - the point at which it totally distorts and breaks down. What results is a moment of pure, uncapturable, and un-simulatable intimacy in the face of impending doom.
