Original artwork description:

This fineliner pen portrait of my mother, Amina, or Emne in krio (the language we speak in Sierra Leone) depicts an inquisitive yet jovial expression on the face of our family’s matriarch. The coloured design in the background is influenced by traditional Sierra Leonean fabric, which is prominent within the nation as well as in the diaspora. I believe it’s important to give those closest to us their flowers whilst they’re still around and to pay homage to those who shaped us, especially apropos to being the first generation born in the UK.
