The final painting in my TINI RODU series
In Ukrainian culture, malva is strongly connected with home, family, and belonging. It was traditionally grown near houses, under windows and by doorways, becoming part of the familiar landscape of home. For me, it carries a very personal feeling of the place where I grew up and the things that made it feel like home.
The goldfinch is one of those small, familiar birds that belong to the Ukrainian landscape. Here, I wanted it to feel like a natural part of this scene — something you might notice among the flowers in an ordinary day.
The embroidery in this work is based on traditional Ukrainian patterns.
Together, these elements come into one feeling for me — home.
