Original artwork description:

I had always been afraid of using blue, preferring warmer colours where I felt safe - oranges, reds and pinks. Some years ago, perhaps a year or so before I made this painting, I told this to a friend. For my birthday that year she gave me a tube of deep rich blue oil paint and it sat on a shelf while I contemplated it. While I started work on this painting, it began to take turns that I was not expecting, it was a bit of a rollercoaster ride, and it resulted in me scraping off the majority of the painting I had done and covering it in white. That was the moment I took the blue paint off the shelf, and decided to try a little. It excited me, this new direction, and I kept adding more, going deeper into the blue.
