Large Tiger Eyes (2022) Original Acrylic Painting by Karl Hamilton-Cox

Another of my popular 'Eyes' paintings, this time a larger Tiger Eyes 12x24". This work is painted on terracotta leather and box framed ready to wall hang.

The reason for using leather as a medium to paint on is often asked. In this case as with all of my leather art, the leather hide chose is not by accident. The texture and colour must add to the composition, in this case the size of texture perfectly added to the semi-3D effect. Some artists prepare the ground to give texture. I use the natural and random texture of leather in the same way.

The painting process I have developed over the past 10+ years has enabled me to exploit a feature that many mediums avoid. My leather art is not behind glass. The process and materials I use means that the leather art is waterproof and should be seen and appreciated - including touching as you can sculpture. I paint art on leather jackets as well so the process is well proven.
