This drawing began as an attempt to get at the mood of a particular open stretch of ground somewhere between memory and observation. The greasy, oil pastels I use resist precision, and the marks that emerged here felt right in a way I couldn't have planned. Whether the result reads as a specific place or just the idea of open country is something I leave to whoever spends time with it.
