I grew up in Schuylkill County in rural Pennsylvania, and a lot of my drawing returns to the kind of landscape I knew as a child without always realising it. This piece tries to get at the feeling of that open agricultural ground: not a specific field or season, more a quality of space and light. The marks here were partly deliberate and partly the result of tools making their own decisions. That feels right for a drawing informed by memory.
