A contemporary Australian interpretation of a native bird, combining expressive acrylic painting with bold geometric abstraction.

The bird sits quietly on a branch, surrounded by simplified shapes inspired by Australian foliage, sunlight and landscape. Deep greens, warm ochres, coral, cream and navy create a distinctive contemporary palette, while areas of textured brushwork bring the bird and branches to life.

I am interested in reducing the landscape to its essential forms — colour, light, shape and rhythm — while retaining enough of the natural subject for the viewer to recognise it. The result is a balance between figurative painting and abstraction.

The work is painted in acrylic on canvas, with visible painterly texture and carefully constructed geometric forms. It is presented in a natural timber frame, giving the colourful composition a warm, understated finish.

This is a one-of-a-kind original painting, created in my studio in Western Australia.
